Affordable Government

Sustainable Communities

Sustainable Communities

The last few years have been unprecedented. The pandemic put people on CERB and closed businesses. The cost of living continues to increase with record home and gas prices and high inflation. I will fight for you by:

  • Keep taxes low and watch government spending
  • Continue to grow the commercial and industrial tax base through attracting new business and supporting existing ones
  • Continue to look for budgetary savings without harming service levels
  • Ensure that infrastructure demands are met to support economic growth

Sustainable Communities

Over the last four years, we have made real progress on environmental issues. The Whitby Green Standard, the green development of town buildings and implementing the LEAF program. Looking forward we will:

  • Enhance conservation areas in Whitby and Durham
  • Move toward a net zero carbon fleet
  • Expand EV charging stations with public and private partners

Safe Neighbourhoods

Sustainable Communities

Safe Neighbourhoods

As a parent of young children, I understand that our neighbourhoods need to be safe for the people that live in them. Emergency services need to be at your front door in a moment’s notice. Over the next four years, I will advocate for:

  • A new EMS station in south Whitby and ensure all emergency services have the resources they need
  • Investigate a car baiting program and other best practices that would deter car break-ins and theft
  • Continue to roll out traffic calming measures in problematic areas
  • Enhance cycling corridors and continue to add more multi-use paths

Smarter Development

Smarter Development

Safe Neighbourhoods

Over the next 30 years Durham Region is going to see its population double and another 220,000 homes built. We need to ensure that development is sustainable and that YOU are involved in the process. My plan for smart growth will:

  • Ensure that higher density is transit supported and positioned along major corridors
  • Continue to ensure that residents have a voice in the planning process through ongoing communication and public meetings
  • Work with the community through park improvements to ensure that amenities best reflect the residents they serve

Seniors and Youth

Smarter Development

Seniors and Youth

We need to advocate for our seniors and youth in our community. Seniors are looking for places to downsize and youth need an affordable place to live. My plan will:

  • Work with developers to ensure that new subdivisions have a supply of bungalows for those looking to downsize
  • Develop a pilot program for attainable housing for young first time home buyers
  • Advocate for more long-term care beds and improved health care services
  • Expand programming for seniors and youth

Transit

Smarter Development

Seniors and Youth

People rely on transit every day to get to work, school and around the Region. We need to do more to ensure transit is effective and efficient:

  • Improve route alignment so that bus routes will be designed to be as direct as possible
  • Work with staff and Council on bus route resumption due to COVID-19 cancellations
  • Improve specialized transit services, so that people with disabilities and seniors have transit options that meet their needs
